Damage of blood cells and other blood components resulted from exposure to abnormal mechanical shear stress and/or artificial surfaces has been observed in implanted medical devices such as ventricular assist devices (VADs) and extra-corporeal life support (ECLS). Our lab is currently working on research and development of leading edge VADs with improved blood compatibility. AOT is an internationally networked research group dedicated to scientific research and technological inventions in artificial organs, particularly in VADs. Faculty members have gained world-wide reputation for breakthroughs in VAD technologies and success in giving birth of new generation products.
